2012 Call For Proposals

May 22nd 2011

Building on the 2011 theme of time and space in literacy research, the 2012 NCTEAR Conference theme focuses on the peril(s) and promise(s) of place. Whether the Black Belt in Alabama, the pueblos of the Southwest, rural Appalachia, or urban contexts, each of us lives, works, and teaches in a location with distinct challenges—yet these places also hold innumerable possibilities for action, growth, and change in literacy research and practice(s). The 2012 conference theme seeks to address current practical, theoretical, and methodological issues related to “place” in literacy research.

We welcome proposals representing a range of perspectives (e.g., multicultural, postmodern, feminist, critical race, and queer theories) and methodologies (action research, critical discourse analysis, case study, ethnography, narrative, quasi-experimental/experimental, response-to-intervention, etc.). We invite proposals that focus on empirical research as well as conceptual/theoretical work.

Proposals (no more than 2 single-spaced pages) should address the following: session title, a 100-150 word abstract, the research question(s), methodology, findings/issues/questions for discussion, and how the research will contribute to the conference conversation. If your paper is a conceptual/theoretical one, please describe your theoretical framework and argument and tell how it will contribute to the conference conversation. We are strongly encouraging the participation of classroom teachers and graduate students so, if you are currently a classroom teacher or graduate student, please indicate so in your proposal.

The following must also be included in your proposal: presenter name(s) and affiliation(s), presenter address(es), phone number(s), and email address(es).

Please send all proposals to nctear2012@gmail.com. The deadline for submission of proposals is October 1, 2011.
