Teaching Tolerance @ NCTEAR!

We are very excited to announce that Maureen Costello, Director of Teaching Tolerance, out of the Southern Poverty Law Center, is going to present at whole group session at NCTEAR on Saturday afternoon.

The session is "Banishing the 'Other'” and a description is below.

Alabama’s anti-immigrant law had the fundamental goal of making life in the state unbearable for Latino immigrants. The Southern Poverty Law Center’s immediate response has been to mount lawsuits. The Center’s long-term strategy focuses on overcoming the fear of others that feeds such laws — by education. I will discuss several of our educational initiatives that aim to overcome the barriers between “us” and “them.”
